Privacy Policy
What this website collects, what it does not, and the choices you have.
This policy explains how Estate & Risk, PLLC ("the firm," "we," "us") handles information connected with estateandrisk.com ("the site"). It covers the website. It does not replace the confidentiality duties the firm owes to its clients.
The short version
- The site does not use advertising cookies or sell personal information.
- The site has no user accounts and no public comments.
- The firm receives personal information only when you choose to send it, such as by email, text, phone, a form, a scheduling request or a payment.
- Scheduling and payments are handled by outside companies named below, under their own privacy policies.
Information you choose to send
If you contact the firm, the firm receives what you provide. That usually includes your name, phone number, email address and a description of your question or matter.
The site's forms (the "Send a message" form, the group planning day request and the first responder guide request) send what you type to the firm through Netlify, the company that hosts the site. Netlify stores each submission in the firm's account and emails a copy to the firm. The firm uses form information only to respond to you, and deletes submissions it no longer needs. The "Ask a question about this article" button opens your own email application with a message for you to review and send.
If you request the free first responder guide, the firm receives your name, email address, field of service and, if you provide it, your agency. If you check the box to receive occasional updates, the firm may email you planning tips and firm news. Every such email will include a way to unsubscribe, and you can also ask to be removed at any time. If you do not check the box, your information is used only for the guide request.
Please do not send confidential or sensitive details until the firm has confirmed in writing that it represents you. See the Terms & Disclaimers.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, the company that hosts this site keeps standard server records when a page is requested. These can include your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, and the date and time. The firm uses these records only to keep the site running and secure.
The site does not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. If the firm later adds a visitor-statistics tool, this policy will be updated to name it before it is turned on.
Outside services this site uses
Some features are provided by other companies. When you use them, those companies receive information directly from you or your browser, and their own privacy policies apply.
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosts the website, keeps the server records described above, and receives and stores the information you submit through the site's forms. |
| Microsoft Bookings | Runs the consultation scheduling page. It receives the name, contact details and appointment information you enter. |
| Stripe | Processes client payments. Card details are entered on Stripe's page and are not received or stored by this website. |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the typefaces. Your browser requests them from Google, which receives your IP address when it does. |
| Google Maps, LinkedIn, YouTube | Reached only if you click a link to them. Nothing is sent to them until you do. |
How information is used
The firm uses the information you send to respond to you, check for conflicts of interest, schedule and hold consultations, provide legal services if you become a client, process payments, keep required records, and protect the firm and the site against misuse.
The firm does not use your information for advertising to you by third parties.
When information is shared
The firm does not sell personal information. It shares information only:
- with the service providers named above, and others who help the firm operate, under duties to protect it;
- when you ask or agree, for example to work with another professional on your matter;
- when the law, a court order or the rules of professional conduct require or permit it;
- to protect the safety, rights or property of a person or of the firm.
Security and retention
The firm uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect information. No website, email or text message is completely secure, so the firm cannot guarantee the security of information sent over the internet.
Inquiries that do not lead to representation are kept for as long as needed to respond, check for conflicts and meet legal and professional record-keeping duties. Client files are kept under the firm's file-retention practices and the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct.
Your choices
You may ask what personal information the firm holds about you from your use of this site, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. The firm will honor the request unless it must keep the information to meet a legal, ethical or record-keeping duty. Send requests to joseph@estateandrisk.com.
You can contact the firm by phone instead of email or text if you prefer. If you text the firm, message and data rates may apply, and you can reply STOP to end text messages.
Children
This site is for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and the firm does not knowingly collect personal information from them through the site.
Clients of the firm
If you become a client, information about your matter is protected by attorney-client privilege where it applies and by the confidentiality rules that govern Michigan attorneys. Those duties are in addition to this policy and control if the two differ.
Changes and contact
The firm may update this policy. The date at the top of the page shows the latest version.
